Grand Opening...Welcome to the grand opening of Queen Ashanti, one of the first Ashanti sites ever. First off, Ashanti was in last week's Entertainment Weekly with a critique of her first single, Foolish. Unfortunately, it wasn't given such a good review, but that's just one guy's opinion, so it doesn't really matter. Go to the "Pictures" section for the scan of the picture & review.
Screen Captures...All the screen captures on this site are organized into collages, usually with 12 frames each. In the "Pictures" section is a screen capture gallery - each thumbnail links to a collage. Currently, there are captures for "What's Luv" with Fat Joe & 2 collages for "Foolish" and 3 more for "Foolish" on the way. Please do not use my captures on your site without crediting them to this site because they took a lot of time to make.

Soul Train...Go to the Pictures/Screen Captures section to find a new capture collage of Ashanti's recent appearance on Soul Train, where she performed "Foolish" & "Happy."
Album...Be sure to buy (NOT download!) Ashanti's debut album, which will be in stores in the U.S. on April 02. If enough people buy it in its first week of release, the album could debut at #1!

New Pictures...Check out the picture galleries for scans of the pictures in the album booklet, and screen captures of Ashanti's appearance on Live with Regis & Kelly earlier today.
Fun Fact...Ashanti's singing talent was "discovered by accident," said Ashanti on Live with Regis & Kelly. She was around 12 years old and doing her chores. Her mother had told her no TV and and no radio, so Ashanti sang to herself. Later, her mom came in, saying, "I thought I told you no radio!" Of course, it wasn't the radio but really talented little Ashanti.

Number 1...Congratulations to Ashanti for debuting at number one on Billboard's Top 200 Albums chart & the R&B/Hip-Hop chart. The single "Foolish" is currently the #1 Hot 100 single, with "What's Luv" with Fat Joe following at #2. "Foolish" is also the #1 R&B/Hip Hop single, and "what's Luv" is #3. According to Soundscan, Ashanti set a record for "the best out-of-the-box splash by a debuting female artist," ringing up 502,000 units (gold!) in the album's 1st week of release.

Ashanti VS Tweet...There is a cartoon of Ashanti fighting Tweet in this week's Entertainnment Weekly (04/26/02). There was an accompanying article talking about Ashanti and Tweet both coming out with debut albums on the same day. I'll have that article next update. In the meantime, you can find the cartoon in the Pictures section in a new category: cartoons.
R Kelly Duet...In last week's Entertainment Weekly, there was a small article about the R Kelly sex scandal and Ashanti was mentioned - here is an excerpt: "...the singer (R Kelly) has responded by asking his fans to stand by him, something that at least one artist declined to do: Ashanti, who planned to duet with him on her blockbuster self-titled debut album recorded with Ja Rule instead."

However, I do have the scan of the cover of Black Men - you can find that in Gallery One or click the thumbnail to your left. There's a small article inside and another picture, but it's exactly the same as the cover, but with less text. I'll get those to you as soon as I can as well.

Articles...I finally have all the articles from Ashanti's 3 cover features to your left - check out the "Information" section for those. Also, here is the Tweet VS Ashanti article from a few weeks back:
Hear & Now: This week on the music beat
Bitter Tweet
When R&B newcomer Ashanti's self-titled debut sold 503,000 copies last week, entering at No. 1 on the albums chart and becoming the biggest first week for a female artist's debut in SoundScan history, it took many by surprise. But for label insiders, it was the climax of a showdown between Def Jam's Ashanti & Elektra's soul rookie (and Missy Elliott protegee) Tweet, who moved 195,000 CDs that same week and landed at No. 3. According to a source, when Elektra chief Sylvia Rhone learned in February that both albums would drop April 16, she called Def Jam head Lyor Cohen demanding he change Ashanti's release date and insisting Tweet would come out on top (Rhone denies making the call). Cohen refused, and after a flurry of exchanges in which neither backed down, he ordered his staff into overdrive. The label worked deals to sell Ashanti for $8.99 at many stores and pushed her single "Foolish" on radio. In the end, Ashanti, who made an impact with cameos on Ja Rule and Fat Joe songs, soared over Tweet. Can't wait for round two.

Mariah Takes The Ashanti Cure...Diva MARIAH CAREY has found a new solution to the problems that beset her career - R'n'B princess ASHANTI.
The FANTASY singer, who was laid low by a notorious nervous breakdown last year (01), has been suffering since her debut film GLITTER and the album that accompanied it failed to meet expectations.
According to Britain's SUN newspaper, she's roped in sultry Ashanti to write some chart-topping tunes for her comeback. The FOOLISH singer has a great track record with songwriting - she's already written and sung backing on his tunes for JENNIFER LOPEZ.
